GET A HEAD START: Energy Mentoring by NET
Are you studying electrical engineering or industrial engineering and keen to start exploring career opportunities in the energy sector? Do you have questions about starting your career, are you interested in the varied day-to-day work in the energy industry, or do you need tips and advice on how to keep going with your studies?
Then get started with our mentoring programme!
What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a proven tool for developing and achieving career goals. It involves an experienced person (mentor) sharing their knowledge, skills and network with a less experienced person (mentee) within a trusting working relationship, to promote their personal and professional development and support them in overcoming challenges.
What to expect
You’ll take part in our online kick-off event and get to know all the other participants in the programme. In the peer talk that follows, we’ll prepare you for your first mentoring session.
For your mentoring, we’ll pair you with an experienced mentor from the energy sector who has a degree in your field of study. You can meet with them in person or online.
You will exchange views on both subject-specific and broader topics, including:
- Effective strategies for persevering through your studies
- Pathways and options for your future career planning
- Strategies for securing your first job, such as the application process, tips on cover letters, CVs, salary negotiations and self-marketing
- Day-to-day work life within a company
- Industry knowledge, trends and current challenges
- Your strengths and the hard and soft skills you need to develop in your future sector
- Dealing with personal crises
- Work-life balance or balancing family and career
Together with your mentor, we’ll also arrange a workplace visit at one of our sites. This will give you authentic insights into business processes and organisation.
During the programme, you will take part in two online empowerment workshops. Our trainers will work with you on your digital empowerment in the areas of time management, self-organisation, digital wellbeing and your application process.
